First Beach Trip, Part 1

In August, we took our first family vacation to the beach.  We weren’t sure how Naomi would like the car ride because she has not been the fondest of her car seat yet and it takes about two-and-a-half hours to get over there.  (Nonstop crying equals massive headache.)  To our surprise, she did fabulously!

Our travel was not without a funny moment-- on the way, Naomi was getting hungry and needed to be changed.  We were out in nowhereville but stopped on a dirt pullout.  Greg waited patiently while I fed Naomi.  Since our car was packed to the brim, I had to change Naomi on the front seat.  By the way, it was hot as hades.  I opened the passenger door and was proceeding to change her when all of the sudden Greg instantly became tense.  I saw something fly past in my peripheral vision and turned to look at a gigantic, fat black beetle/wasp-looking bug.  It was HUGE and landed on the inside of the door inches away from my head.  I (of course) freaked out and backed up immediately.  Greg was frantically looking for something to shoo our bug intruder out of the car with, and all the while, cute little Naomi was wiggling, bare buns in the air, blissfully unaware of the situation.  Luckily Greg had perfect aim with the first swing and the bug flew out of the car.  Otherwise, I’m not sure what would have happened with an angry beetle flying around in our car.  Glad it ended up well, even for the bug!

The first part of the week was spent in Morro Bay.  We celebrated my 27^th birthday (Naomi was my perfect gift), enjoyed a room that opened up onto the Embarcadero, watched sunset every night, and took in all the overcast foggy weather while it was still so hot at home.  It was fun to wear jeans and jackets.

This was a day trip to Montana de Oro State Park.  We hiked the sand dunes that overlooked untouched beach for miles in both directions.  It was absolutely breathtaking!  Naomi spent the majority of the time snoozing.  There was a group rescuing a seal on the shoreline that had been spotted and reported.  She was having seizures and needed medical attention.  We watched as they corralled her into a crate and Greg actually ended up being able to help them lift her into the truck.  She was over 300 lbs. but we came away with this bumper sticker:

We also took Naomi to Avila Family Farms to the petting zoo.  She was intrigued by watching the different animals.

Kiddos can feed the animals but since Naomi can't yet, somebody had to do the honors...

And then just for a good laugh, here is my incident with a bee.  (I must have bad luck when it comes to insects!)
